FAMILY TREE

This post is for Hollie in hopes that she might be able to use one of the many features of classtools.net with her first graders in creating online family trees. If so, they can either be printed out or uploaded to a class blog or website. I'll be glad to help you if you don't know how. Hope you can use this.

SNAP.VU

Tired of having to repeat a URL for students a dozen times or having them type in an incorrect URL because it is so long?  Well shorten those URLs with snap.vu.  Just register for a free account and start shortening those web addresses.  Snap.vu keeps them on file for you so you don't have to  remember them all.  Try it just one time and I think you'll be hooked.

But wait a minute, that's not all it does.  It also creates QR codes which will be so useful whenever cell phones are allowed to be used in school.  That is, if they happen to have a QR reader app.  Don't know what QR codes are or how they can be used in education?  Check out this post:
http://lhewett-techpd.blogspot.com/2012/02/quick-response-codes.html

There's also another website for creating QR codes that give you lots more choices.  It is:

Simply copy-and-paste a set of links in our text box and click 'Stich It'. We'll convert those links into one short URL for you to share. It's that easy! Want to have your students see several sites but don't want them to type each individual URL?  Stitch.it can help.  Type in the URLs for the sites you want and then they will stitch all of them together.

I stitched four of my blogs together.  Click on the link below in order to see them all.

CLASSTOOLS' POST ITS

Want to see how much your students know about a certain topic?  Go to Classtools.net and click on Post It.  Students can then upload a picture and then label it.  They are allowed up to ten post it notes on which they can describe, explain, etc.  Here are some great examples below.  The first one was a review about color.

The second one was a review of perspective.

CLASSTOOLS POST IT

This assignment was done by my Art One students. They chose a piece of artwork that they wanted to discuss. It was uploaded to Post It and then they had ten "post it" notes on which they could discuss the piece of work. This really gave me some insight as to how much knowledge they could apply. Look at the samples below. The first one dealt with lines, shapes and colors.

CLASSTOOLS TIMELINE

Here is an awesome alternative for a written report that can be done in a timeline fashion.  It can be found at classtools.net.  Below are two Art One students' timeline about a researched artist.

This was a very positive experience for all the students. After completion they emailed me either the URL for their timeline or the embed code so that I could check them and upload them to my blog.

CLASSTOOLS' FAKEBOOK

Interested in doing an awesome technology project that most of your students will enjoy doing rather than a written report?  Well try Classtools' Fakebook.  It can be found at the following URL:
http://www.classtools.net/fb/home/page .  Here you'll find a template that your students will fill in and the result will look amazingly like a Facebook page.
Use "Fakebook" to chart the plot of a book, the development of a character, a series of historical events, the debates and relationships between people, and so on!  Get started by entering a name at the top of the page. Then proceed to add friends, posts, comments and profile information.  You can save your work and edit it again later.  You can also embed your Fakebook into your blog as I have below.  In my Fakebook I took on the identity of native American artist, R.C. Gorman.  I gave him friends that he communicated with according to what I discovered about him such as his father being a code talker.  So I added Mr. Keith Little as one of his friends.  Mr. Little, by the way, was a real code talker in WWI.  It's easy to upload URLs for websites and even Youtube videos.  This can be the ultimate in "Creative Reports."  If you want to see the original one online without the advertising on the side, go to the following address: http://www.classtools.net/fb/99/TBPPX5 .

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Create a presentation that would be suitable to show to one of your classes.  It needs to be at least three minutes long if not longer.  You'll be using Fotoflexer if you need to manipulate your photos and then Educreations in order to create the presentation.  Please embed the finished product in your blog.

FOTOFLEXER.COM

Ever need a photo editor?  Well here is a great one and it's free and online.  Go to the following website:  http://fotoflexer.com/ .  Find five photos online pertaining to your subject area.  Manipulate all five somehow on fotoflexer.  Save these on the desktop.  Then they will be used in the next assignment in which you create a presentation using Educreations.

EDUCREATIONS PRESENTATION DONE ON IPAD

Below is one presentation that I created.  I created it on my iPad.

EDUCREATIONS.COM

This is an awesome presentation site that can be done on your PC or iPad.  You do have more flexibility with the iPad but you'll be impressed with those presentations done on your PC as well.  Go to the following URL and register an account:
http://www.educreations.com/
Then you will create a presentation incorporating five photos pertaining to your subject area.  Find these online.  Get a microphone and record your presentation.  If you want to delete this later, you can as long as I'm able to check off this assignment.  Once you have completed your prersentation, embed it into your blog.  This first presentation was done on my laptop.  Notice how it differs from the second one done on my iPad.
